JOB MELA

JOB MELA

The YCWA (Young Christian Workers Association) organized a Job mela for the benefit of our parishioners & those of the neighbouring parishes on the 20th of June, 2010.

The response we got was over whelming, much beyond our expectations. Almost 150 candidates walked in for the mela where companies collected CVs, conducted interviews, shortlisted & selected candidates.

 

Well- known companies like Intellenet, LIC & Firstsource & prominent recruitment agencies like Lobo Staffing Solutions, Telematrix, Workforce Management, Personnel People, etc. participated in the mela & put up their stalls. The vacancies included jobs for various sectors – IT, BPOs, Insurance, etc. as well as for freshers, the experienced & jobs at senior management level, thus catering to a wide range of candidates. The participating companies were satisfied with the quantity as well as the quality of candidates they received.

 

Mr. Dolphy D’Souza (the owner of Personnel People, a recruitment agency) conducted a training session for the benefit of the candidates on how they should tackle interviews.

At present, we have about 200 candidates registered with us in our database. The YCWA shortlists candidates & contacts them on an ongoing basis, as & when openings with companies crop up. Hence we invite all parishioners looking for jobs (no age bar),to register with us & HELP US HELP YOU.

 

Encouraged by the good response, the YCWA is planning to hold many more such events that would help people in their careers, personal investments, etc. We urge all parishioners to take advantage of the platform that we are offering. It would also be of great help if people join & be a part of the YCWA team & help us in our endeavor to reach out & help others. YCW meetings are held every Thursday at 8pm on the 1st floor of the Seva Kendra.

EXHIBITION ON RECESSION

Salvation Church – Dadar and the YCW(Young Christian Workers), jointly organized a talk cum exhibition on 22nd of November, 2009 under the able guidance of  Fr Aniceto. The session was based on Caritas in Veritate (Latin: "Charity in Truth" or "Love in Truth"), the third encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI.

 

Prof. Agnelo Menezes of St. Xavier's College gave three 45 minute session explaining in brief what the encyclical was all about. The poster exhibition focused on the current economic situation highlighting the global recession and its effects on the youth and working class. Since the sessions coincided with the feast of Christ the King, these sessions were conducted before every holy hour. The theme for the day was – ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.

 

Prof. Agnelo successfully managed to combine the theme with his talk wherein he spoke of the encyclical and how the big corporates use the working class for their selfish benefits. He also spoke of ways how we could make our workplace a better place and how we should treat every worker, big or small equally in Gods Kingdom. This way we would give “The King His Kingdom”.

 

The audience comprised of the youth and adults from the Parish. Not only did they get an insight into the Popes message but it also helped them in contemplating issues like the call-center work environment, high spending, late night shifts and workplace issues during the holy hour. A session was also held later in Konkani by Fr. Lancy for the benefit of the Konkani-speaking parishioners.
